GLASG Dyefest Recap

Last Saturday was GLASG's Dyefest. I had a great time!

My friend wanted to join GLASG earlier and come with me, but we did not find out that this is the one day where a person can't just show up to a meeting and join on the spot, so my poor friend missed this year's Dyefest. We will probably do our best to make next year's Dyefest.

Everyone's lovely products. The two on the left are mine.
I was really intimidated by the Dyefest to the point where I almost did not show up. We were e-mailed this long list of items to bring to the Dyefest the Wednesday before the meeting. I made an effort to buy as much as I can cheaply on Friday, but pots and heat sources were also on the list of items to bring, and I did not find either of them cheaply. Since the Dyefest was unfortunately the last meeting I would be able to attend in a while, and I had to return the awesome wool combs and dye book I borrowed in May, I had no choice but to go.

It was in the back yard of this beautiful home. I couldn't believe the owner was willing to let us use her house. I walked in and immediately swooned over her Steinway baby grand. I only wish I have the room or the money to have a baby grand, or just a normal piano, but that's not the point of this post. I didn't take a picture of her house, but I did take a picture of her lovely back yard.

I am really glad I went. Pamela, the president of GLASG was kind enough to lend me her pot to dye some mohair I picked up from Ruth (The Dizzy Ewe), and I was able to share someone else's dye pot to dye my yarn into a lovely coral color and this gorgeous blue color. I also picked up some 2 oz sample fibers from Ruth so I can see what these fibers feel like.
My samples.

All in all, the Dyefest was a wonderful experience and it definitely tipped my interest in dyeing yarn and fiber. I picked up some Kool Aid and tested it on some yarn and wool top, but I learned I don't like the bright colors Kool Aid makes. I'm considering getting some Wilton icing to make some more subtle, pastel colors.

The Dyefest was a wonderful experience, my dyeing experience was, however, quite a disaster. That's a horror story that deserves its own post. The series of unfortunate events my yarn and wool top suffered must be documented so someone can one day bring them justice. Quite honestly, they did not deserve the treatment they got, and I don't know which heartless bastard put them through all that torment. It wasn't me. I swear. I'm innocent. (not... /sob/ I will do a better job next time! I will!)
